Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of the most attractive container-bamboos, short broad green leaves give this 3' clumper/slow runner a unique and attractive appearance. PSh/M
A short bamboo with dense foliage, Shibataea kumasaca will usually grow to around five feet in height. The most interesting part of this plant is the leaves, which are short and wide giving a very unusual appearance, especially from a distance. It is one of the best plants for growing in a container because of the soft shape of the leaves and how dense the plant grows.

Shibataea kumasaca is fast to establish but spreads slower than many other running bamboos and is easier to control. The rhizomes tend to remain closer to the surface than with the larger bamboos such as Phyllostachys. It is perfect for a well pruned hedge as the canes remain very upright and the branches are short, making the plant easier to prune to a specific shape.
Short leaves on slightly zigzag stem, slow spreader. USDA zones 6-9. Resistant to bamboo mites.
