Nursery contributed plant descriptions

We have had this Gresham hybrid since the late 1960's from the Edwards Nursery in Palo Alto, CA. The upright purple flowers from a crown shape. Some tepals stand upright and others drop. Still one of the best of the Gresham hybrids.
The lovely flowers of this M. liliflora X M. vietchii cross are an incredible 12 inches across with 12 petals of deep rich-pink on the outside and white and rose on the inside (an early spring bloomer-protect from frost), stunning in flower and blooming at a younger age than some Magnolias; soft-green foliage on a handsome 25' tall by 20' wide tree. S/M
This liliflora cross flower comes out dark purple and becomes lighter with time; the tree blooms at a very young age (they bloomed in the nursery last year). The tree is vigorous, but stays reasonably small (15') zone 6
