Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Self-fertile, this attractive 50-60' shade tree will produce fruit all by itself when it's old enough (perhaps 15 years), that is good news if you would really like the nuts, but do not have the room for two trees; lovely jade green lobed leaves become golden in autumn; Ginkgo nuts are quite delicious, but be forewarned the husks of the fruit are very unpleasant smelling, you may want to plant them some distance from the house; do wear gloves when harvesting the nuts as the husks can cause poison oak like symptoms in sensitive individuals. If you really want the fruit and don't want to plant two huge trees, here's the answer. Zone 4.
