Zingiber rubens is a species from Nepal, Sikkim to India and is a very cold hardy ginger. It grows to about four feet with typical Zingiber foliage and very pretty bright red bracts blooming on short stems at ground level. The flowers are said to be edible and are a showy pale yellow with dark red speckling. The rhizomes are used in Indian medicine. These are small plants grown from seed.
