Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Known in Mexico as the Maxipiñon, this beautiful conifer is very rare and only first 'discovered' in 1964. It is in fact, one of the rarest plants on earth growing in a region of the Sierra Madre so small it only covers 3-6 square miles; sadly this tree is on the brink of extinction. This large, 50', Pinyon differs from others in that is has very fine, almost lacy, blue-green foliage and in produces the largest, most gorgeous cones (8-10") which contain the largest nuts of any pinyon. This is a spectacular pine worth the attention of any warm region conifer lover. S/D/GDr
One of the world’s rarest pines. This pine is endangered in habitat, the mountains of Zacatecas, Mexico. Closely related to Pinus pinceana, it grows to 40’ with a broad irregular crown. The cones can weigh up to 4 lbs. This is a stunning ornamental pine with blue green needles. I have never seen this pine in cultivation. We have a very limited supply. Zone 8-10.
