Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This member of the banana family gives an exotic tropical look to the potted container and is a true dwarf in the world of heliconias. Growing 1-3' in height, it produces a large rose-red inflorescence comprised of colorful bracts from which protrude thin, white-tipped flowers. The blooms appear on the newly matured growth. It needs a warm growing area above 60°F with good light and plenty of moisture. Once new growth is on its way, cut off the old leaves and allow the next cycle to begin. The blooms make long-lasting cut flowers.
A dainty little heliconia growing only to about 2 feet in partial shade to partial sun. The blooms are red with green edging and produced year around. It is an ideal container plant blooming in pots as small as 3 gallons. We like to cluster multiple colored and shaped containers of Dwarf Jamaican for a beautiful effect.
