Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Old Rose Hybrid. Crimson. Appoximately 120 petals. Repeat flowering. Without doubt, the best crimson English Rose to date. It is truly a superb variety with exquisite blooms of the richest velvety crimson, gradually changing to an equally rich purple. Deeply cupped at first, the flower soon opens out to a shallow quartered cup. Excellent disease resistance. A variety that performs well in both cooler and warmer climates. This rose has the strong, warm fragrance that we expect, but do not always find, in deep red roses. We have planted a large bed of William Shakespeare 2000 and a mixed border of English and Old Roses at Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon in the UK. This variety is not to be confused with the origional William Shakespeare that was introduced in 1987 and which has not stood the test time. Height 4 ft. x 3 ft. (David Austin 2000, Ausromeo). Shallow quartered cup flowers. 120 petals.
