Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Brilliant red fall color makes a sensational accent or hedge, especially when used in front of evergreens.
Deciduous, rounded shrub with green, clean-looking foliage throughout the year that turns a brilliant red in the fall. Orange-red seed coat is noticeable after leaf drop in late fall. Branches have corky wings on them, although not quite as pronounced as the species. Excellent choice for hedges, groups, specimen plants, borders, or screens. Growth Rate slow
Burning bush is best known for its spectacular red fall colour which is the most intense if it's grown in full sun. It also has attractive reddish purple fruit. Another common name is winged euonymus which refers to corky ?winged" appendages along the branches. These are beautiful in winter when they catch lines of fresh fallen snow. More compact and dense than the species, 'Compactus' is extremely useful for smaller gardens.
Aptly named, this shrub provides unrivaled red leaf color in the early fall. Reliable color in sun or shade. Upright growing, eventually becoming more rounded. Grows 4-5' in ten years. Older plants may reach 10' tall. Easy and very rewarding to grow. Awards: Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. Recommended by: Garden Clubs of America, & the United States National Arboretum.

Bright red fall color, deciduous. Dense rounded form. Prune to keep smaller, deciduous, Hardy to zone 4
Red Fall foliage is the reason to have this plant. It's a knockout. Insignificant flowers produce interesting red berries which birds love. Best Fall color achieved in sun but develops acceptable color in shade. No wet soils for this one. (Note: This IS the dwarf form at 6-8'. The regular form is 15' tall!) While it behaves well in urban areas, E. alatus planted near woodlands, mature second-growth forests, and pastures can be problematic from seeds.
