Spikes thick with brilliant red-violet florets ascend through strongly minty leaves in late summer and into fall. In China, its native range includes valley stream-sides, rocky mountains, and dry hillsides. Its a great new bee attractant for us, both honey and bumble! Versatile in habitat and rare!Minimum temperature: -30?F
Lilac-purple flowers are freely produced on this tiny perennial-shrub all during fall "making a splendid splash of late colour" (Hillier); the mint-scented leaves can be enjoyed all season. Sun-PSh/Med.Moisture
Aside from the deliciously fresh, fruity mint perfume of it's bright green, serrated, lance shaped leaves this small, deciduous Chinese shrub, also bears upright, sugar pink, bottle brush like flowers over Summer and Autumn. A very different looking plant for breaking up a dull garden bed or maybe as a low informal hedge. Charming, unusual and easily grown, Elsholtzia is sure to become extremely popular.
