From Japan, this outstanding compact rounded 3-4' selection is gorgeous in spring with its pale-pink flowers growing in bunches up the stems and is especially striking when covered with a showy crop of lilac-violet fruits, even at a young age! (Issai means to fruit at a young age). S-PSh/M
Issai Beautyberry is a small shrub known for its beautiful autumn showing of purple berries against solid green foliage. The berries are enjoyed by birds during the fall and winter months. Issai Beautyberry makes a great border or foundation shrub. Deer resistant and tolerates most soil conditions. Issai Beautyberry can be later than most shrubs to leaf out. This is great for northern regions.
A deciduous shrub growing 3-4' with a graceful arching habit. Obovate 1-3" green leaves turn yellow in fall. Pinkish lavender flower clusters in june , followed by clusters of 1/8" metallic lilac violet berries in september and persist thru winter for birds. Likes sun to pt shade.
Small pink flowers are followed by clusters of purple berries which encircle the stems from late summer thru winter. A dense mounding habit. Few pests or diseases and easy to grow.
(Chinese Beautyberry) Zone 5 6' tall. An unusual shrub which can be used in a border or as a specimen. Pale lavender pink flowers in early summer turn into a fall display of cluster of small purple berries. An improvement over the species with bigger and more abundant fruit.

The most graceful and refined of the species with its leaves in one plane rather than in whorls. The long slender branches arch to touch the ground at their tips. Use low nitrogen to avoid legginess. Issai is fruitful and showy, even at an early age (our quart plants have berries!) and has a slightly more mounded form and more compact. Overall, a superior form. (Will die back in zone 5 but return in spring)
