Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This wonderfully useful and easy-going 4-6' shrub is a beautiful ornamental with its prolific brilliant-white flowers in spring and breath-taking-bright red and purple fall color, it is also a super edible plant with its bright-black antioxidant rich fruits which make a fantastic juice or jelly; the berries are loved by the birds if you do not harvest them yourself; this is a superb edible hedge plant; this cultivar is an introduction from the University of British Columbia. S/M-W
An upright deciduous shrub with many seasons of interest. 'Autumn Magic's leaves are dark green and turn brilliant scarlet and orange tones in the fall. Showy white flowers appear in spring. Black berries appear in the fall and hang in pendulous clusters on the plant. It adapts well to poor soil, both wet and dry. Edible berries for humans and wildlife.
More compact than the species with brilliant red and purple autumn foliage and clusters of persistent purplish black fruits, I suspect it is actually a hybrid with arbutifolia since pure melanocarpa does not display good fall color.
Produces fragrant white flowers in May followed by dark purple berries. Fall color is a spectacular show of reds and purple. Grows to a mature size of 3-5' tall and 2-4' wide.
White fragrant flowers spring, edible blue-black berries. Fall color red-orange.
If ever a plant was aptly named, this is! The magical mix of purple and red autumn hues is just that - magical. Dark green, waxy foliage in summer with white spring flowers followed by black berries just adds to the Magic. Amazing in mass. Fragrant. while spreading by suckers, not invasive.
