?An attractive form with long pendulous branches; trained as a standard it forms a charming, small weeping tree? (Hillier). S/M-W
This hardy ornamental shrub is not seen as often as it should. Narrow dark gray green foliage adorn branches that have a pendulous habit. This is a female clone with small catkins in late winter.S. purpurea 'Pendula responds well to pruning and can be trained to a single leader to create a distinct hardy specimen for gardens or containers. If left unpruned plants can reach 8-15' tall and 15' wide. Very adaptable to soil types and can adapt to drought conditions. Shipping trade gallons.
Silvery-green catkins spring, narrow, bluish leaves. Deciduous. Tolerates moist soils USDA Zones 3-8.
An interesting form of Artic Willow. It can be left to grow as a small weeping shrub or can be trained as a small weeping tree by removing lower buds/branches. Thrives with deep watering but can even stand periods of drought once established. Purplish stems in new spring growth with blue foliage. Insignificant light green blooms.
