Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Here's a hard-to-find ornamental tree named for its extravagance of creamy white, fringy flowers that dangle in fragrant, drooping clusters 9 in. long and 4 in. wide. Branching low with a widespreading, but upswept habit, this deciduous tree develops a teardrop form if the lowest branches are retained. The light green leaves, gray-green beneath, offer yellow fall color that persists for some time, and contrasts nicely with the gray snakeskin bark, enhanced by orange-tan streaks. Shown to advantage on the bare branches of winter, clusters of small, fuzzy gray fruit are a bonus in arrangements. Aside from its year-round loveliness, which is best viewed in an elevated position, Epaulette Tree can tolerate wind, and clay or sandy soil. Large Band.
Small tree; a bit hardier than other members of the Styrax family. Fragrant flowers emerge in mid-summer, drooping below the bold, clean foliage. A memorable sight in bloom, unlike any other tree.
An uncommon small tree/large shrub with somewhat coarse foliage brightened by long (to 10") drooping clusters of fragrant flowers in summer. Sun/Med
A deciduous tree with 3-8" long, 4" wide, light green, oval leaves w/ a silvery underside. When few other trees are flowering, delicate, creamy white, slightly fragrant blooms appear hanging in 5-10" x 2-3" wide clusters. These blooms are quite striking when viewed from below the tree (as are the leaves) so it should be situated to take advantage of this display. The gray bark has inner orange/tan color showng thru at expansion breaks. The stems lose their gray outer bark in papery thin stringy strips. The blooms are followed by pendulous gray pods which are quite showy and great in dried arrangements. Truly a 4-Season Tree. Almost impossible to find in the trade.
