A rare cypress from China with great texture -- dense branchlets made up of small, tightly adpressed bluish leaves. Narrow and upright when young, it becomes rounded and broadly domes when old. Seed cones dark brown or purplish brown when ripe. Grows in forests on mountain slopes; 1400-3300 m. in Guizhou, SW Sichuan, C and NW Yunnan, SE Xizang. The branches are spreading and drooping but not quite enough to be considered pendulous. Closely allied to Cupressus sempervirens but more slender branchlets and very small bright bluish-green leaves.
