Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This crinum typically blooms in July, with slender-petaled, fragrant white flower that are highlighted with long, wine red stamens. They are unusual, looking like nothing else in the garden. Originating in India, Crinum amoenum is both an excellent garden addition and a plant super well suited to container growing. (See Crinum Planting Guide for tips to produce more flowers.) This variety forms a nice clump and doesn't spread with runners as some crinums do.

If you don't yet know the crinum lilies, stand up and take notice. This species has very tropical-looking, large, fragrant, white spidery flowers with many narrow, drooping petals and wine-purple stamens. It hails from India where it grows along the banks of rivers. Despite its moist native habitat, it adapts beautifully to normal garden conditions forming attractive clumps of strap-like leaves. It also does well grown in pots.
Huge strap-petaled fragrant white flowers, highlighted by wine-purple stamens. Crinum are the giants of the bulb world. These South African natives are nearly indestructible perennials in mild climates. They can bloom repeatedly once established. A truely valuable gem for the Southern landscape, these bulbs will likely outlive the gardener. Bulb size: 15+ cm around
