Iris 'Apollo' is a broadleaf deciduous bulb / corm / tuber with green foliage. In spring white flowers emerge. Grows well with sun and even moisture water. Prefers to be dry in summer. A good option if you're seeking something verticillium wilt resistant.
Iris x hollandica or Dutch iris are beautiful hybrids for hot sunny locations. 'Apollo' has striking white flags, sometimes with a faint blue tinge, and pale yellow falls with dark yellow tips. Dutch iris make great cut flowers. Plant them in a location with well-drained to dryish soils where they can bake in the summer months when dormant. Overplant with ground covers like thyme, Sedum and Delosperma.
Apollo is a large flowered bicolor. White with yellow falls.
Dutch Iris are those wonderful Iris you see in floral displays. They are perfect for Easter and Spring Boquets. It really is tragic that these are not more common in gardens. Developed from species native to Spain and North Africa. They do best in a sunny area and multiply quickly. These have flowered for me year after year with no care.
Bloom is triggered by cool night time temperatures in the 40's and 50's. They are easily forced in an unheated winter greenhouse.
Zones 6-10 (maybe winter hardy to zone 5 if you plant them in a protected spot...in colder zones, plant in the spring) Bulbs are full blooming size at 8 cm around
