The large serrated leaves of this unique one foot clumper emerge deep purple-black before maturing to varying degrees of purple, bronze and olive; they are topped by 2' stems of bright-yellow flowers in late summer; eye-catching all season and especially fetching when planted with golden Japanese forest grass. The dramatic, leathery leaves are an intriguing purple which slowly changes to bronze and then to olive green. Yellow summer flowers in slender, dense racemes. Best if protected from the hottest sun and kept evenly moist. The Osiris ligularia were bred at Les Jardins Osiris in Quebec and represent an exciting new direction for this genus.
Use this bold wonderful foliage plant as a focal point in the garden or even as a container subject. 'Cafe Noir' shows off with large leathery purple black serrated leaves, and branches of yellow composite flowers in late summer. It does appreciate a lot of moisture.
