Amethyst' Oak Leaf Hydrangea produces bright white blooms that age to a deep purple-red in lilac-shaped clusters. Individual flower clusters last for weeks and because they bloom at different times a single plant will often have flowers that are both red and white at the same time. Oak Leaf Hydrangeas are excellent for drying and preserving and the flowers will dry well at any age, ranging from white to pink to red.

Oakleaf Hydrangeas have large, vibrantly green leaves that are much softer and more lush than other Hydrangea species and they are lobed similar to an oak leaf. The leaves are one of the main reasons gardeners plant the species as they take on a beautiful deep red color in the fall.

Yet another first-class shrub introduced by esteemed horticulturist, Michael Dirr, this steadfast smaller-sized cultivar commands our attention. The 6 in. long, upright flowers house creamy white sepals, which darken to a luscious wine-red hue as they mature and make exceptional fresh or dried cut flowers, maintaining their rich hues. Ideal as a stand-alone or massed, easy-to-grow 'Amethyst' sports handsome, large coriaceous leaves with a spectacular fall showing of burgundy shades.
Half the size of most other cultivars, this one shares their tough constitution and season-long appeal. Upright flowers emerge cream-colored and become a surprising wine-red color with age.
The beautiful wine-red blooms. This Oak Leaf hydrangea is one of Michael Dirr's introductions with eye popping color all year long. The panicle creamy white sterile flowers bloom in June for most areas and don't stop looking fantastic until the first hard frost. Dramatic wine red color on these large round sepals will make you stop in your tracks. Fall color on the leaves, too.
