Butterflies and pollinators love this easy care perennial...neat 12” wide clumps of narrow, strappy, grassy foliage are topped by 20” stems June>August with spheres of lavender-pink. Dry seed heads are attractive well into the fall. Prefers well drained soil & sun; it is drought tolerant and deer/rabbit resistant. Flowers are nice in arrangements. Verticillium resistant. We have not seen any seedlings so it may be sterile.  USDA Zone 5-10  3" pot
Allium tanguticum 'Summer Beauty' is one of the non-bulbous ornamental onions that blooms in mid to late summer, in this case with numerous spheres of lavender-pink flowers popular with bees and butterflies atop strap-like, bright green foliage. 'Summer Beauty' blooms over an extended period due to having sterile flowers. Ornamental onions are also valuable for repelling insect pests from the garden. Plant them beside plants that bugs find delectable and let them be a botanical bodyguard. Average to dry soils.
If you think, like us, that the mounds of glossy green strap-like foliage are reason enough to grow this deer proof wonder, wait until the 2 lavender pink globe flowers bloom! Crowds of long-lasting flowers become seedheads of subdued beauty in late summer. A top bee feeding station for all kinds of native bees, honeybees too."
'Summer Beauty' ornamental onion is one of the best summer blooming varieties on the market. Strap-like foliage is shiny, clean, slightly twisted, grass green, and emerges fairly early in the season. In mid to late June through July a profusion of pink flowers in round ball-shaped clusters adorn the plant and are loved by butteflies and native pollinators. I have yet to find viable seed or seedlings, quite well behaved in the garden. Foliage turns yellow for added fall color. Easy to grow, drought tolerant, and low-maintenance; great for any garden!
A mid summer blooming rhizomatous ornamental onion with dark lavender-blue flowers borne in a 2 inch wide umbel on 18 inch stems. The flowers are long lasting and make excellent cut flowers. The foliage of 'Summer Beauty' stays attractive all season long, and the plants form impressive clumps over time.
