2-5 inch scarlet blooms flower in midsummer and into early fall. This is an unusual and terrific color to have in the garden. Let it be the starter plant to revamp your color palette. 6-8 foot deciduous vine.
If you haven't yet discovered the Texensis Group of clematis, do come and have a look. Though the flowers are small to medium-sized they are exquisite and, I think, some of the most elegant in the genus. 'Gravetye Beauty' has lipstick red, outward facing, tulip-shaped flowers in July-October. During autumn and winter the plant is adorned with silky seed heads.
The 3 inch flowers of this texensis hybrid appear in mid summer and last until autumn in most gardens. The rich red color and tulip shape make it one of the best of its class. Texensis-Viorna Group Clematis. Morel, France, c1900.
This coveted Clematis has lily shaped buds opening to crimson red flowers on vigorous vines, growing 6-8'. It blooms mid summer through fall, and as the spent flowers fade, they develop showy seed heads for fall and winter. One tip that might be helpful is to mulch the roots to aid in keeping the soil cool.
