Striking red stems support long narrow leaves of blue green above, silvery below in arching, fountain form. The cranberry stems make this a hosta of a different color! 10” tall clumping out to 28”, appreciates AM sun to mostly shade; lavender flowers on leafy red scapes, late summer. Will grow under walnuts, like most hostas. USDA Z3
This red stemmed hosta is said to be one of the best. The leaves are green on top but silvery-white beneath (which looks fabulous with the red stems!). In spring this cultivar is stunning as it emerges with a bit of red seeping into the leaf bases. In summer, the lavender flowers are held on red stems. Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens.
Thick & smooth, dark grey-green leaves with white undersides & distinctive rippled edges; bright red & speckled petioles. Lavender flowers in late autumn. Dappled light, afternoon to moderate shade. Small-Medium size hosta.
Remarkable for its red stems bearing deep lavender flowers on 28" stems in August, 'Red October' presents itself as a tidy green leaved selection that waits until late summer to steal the show.
