Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Abutilon ‘Dwarf Red’ is a deciduous flowering maple that holds electric salmon-orange bell-shaped flowers in an upright habit. Some of us here at Little Prince think looks like a nice Hawaiian Punch. Abutilons are very heat tolerant, making them excellent for summer gardens or containers in the hot sun. Provide winter protection in cooler climates. They thrive in well-drained soil with occasional feedings. Pinch the young leaf stems to encourage more branching. Prune lightly to shape and remove dead stems.
For those looking for an abundance of bloom, here is a densely branching hybrid with enormous charm. Reddish-orange bell-shaped flowers contrast sharply against the dark green leaves. This Abutilon belongs to the group known as "Parlor Maples" and has a very compact branching habit. It is one of those plants that truly brightens your home year-round whether placed on a sunlit desk or windowsill.
Really a red orange, but nonetheless a richly colored floriferous flowering maple which is quite compact at 15-18" when grown in full sun; will reach 30" in a single season when give less light. We like how it tolerates light frosts and continues to dazzle into November.
