Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Introduced in 1979 it is an outstanding introduction! Large velvety purple-blue flower spikes wave above the dark green, shiny foliage. Unlike some salvias, it comes to bloom fairly quickly and then flowers continuously until hard freeze. Well-drained soil.
This notable bush-like salvia produces stately spires of purple blossoms. The blue bracts and stem retain their color in dried flower arrangements. Blooming on the shortening day length of summer, it flowers for us right through the fall. If grown in pots indoors in a sunny spot, the flowers continue through the winter.
An evergreen, woody shrub. Soft, coarsely textured, sage-green leaves, clothe woody stems that appreciate support from other plants. Long spikes of rich royal-blue tubular flowers are produced year round. Cut back stems when new growth is seen at the base.

A robust evergreen selection introduced in 1979 by the Huntington Botanical Garden, it has endured because its garden worth has not abated. Rich blue-violet flowers arranged in foot-long spikes bloom from summer till fall and do not fade or lose color even in hot afternoon sun. The medium-green leaves are serrated and aromatic and combine nicely with silver-leafed plants like Artemisia 'Huntington' or 'Silver King'. Plants grow to 4' with an equal spread. Hardy to 25F.
Large indigo blue flower spikes adorn this wonderful, clumping perennial most of the year. A dense rounded habit and the continuous succession of flowers from Spring to frost have combine to make this a favorite among gardeners.
Probably the best performing taller Salvia for northern climates, it begins blooming in June and puts on a display until the killing frost. S. farinacea is in its parentage, which you can tell by the small deep violet blue blossoms on the 3' blue tinted stems.
