Oh swoon! Who can resist a double pink "Flowering Maple?" Wildly popular for their easy going temperament and year around bloom in mild climates, they're so much valued for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. Sweetheart old-fashioned, ruffly pink, three inch blooms dangle like little hanging roses from 6-10 foot tall upright, branching stems sporting pretty maple-like leaves, primarily from spring through fall with lesser winter bloom here in northern California. Abutilons really shine growing amongst lower shrubs at the back of the garden and work very well in large patio containers. Always accommodate them with rich soil and and annual spring 1-2 inch side-dress of compost for excellent health. Cut back to two feet tall in late fall, it'll rebound nicely in spring. Hardy to 15-20 degrees F.
Double ruffled pink flowers spring to frost to 3” across...sought out by hummingbirds from miles away! Tender shrub 5-8’(+), upright, hardy to about 20 degrees for mild area and along the coast (or greenhouse/sunroom). Likes moist rich soil, feeding increases vigor and bloom, sun in cool areas, afternoon shade where warmer. Nice in big planters.
This is the quite rare double form of flowering maple with pink flowers that resemble just opening old-fashioned rosebuds. It is difficult to propagate and so we must limit one per customer. Upright habit. Available in late spring.
