Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A magnificent native vine that is both very beautiful and very cold tolerant! Established vines can produce incredibley abundant clusters of lovely lavender-blue pea-like flowers in racemes up to one foot long and it reblooms up to three times in a season! Less aggressive than some other Wisterias this vine will reach 15-25' and over time the vine will develop a lovely twisted trunk; full sun required for good bloom set. S/M
Blue Moon' is an extremely fast growing and super hardy Wisteria to zone 3 (Did you notice that prairie gardeners?!) that blooms up to three times a year if grown in full sun. It has beautiful lavender-blue flowers borne on foot-long racemes that are sweetly fragrant. Unlike other wisteria in cultivation, this one hails from North America rather than Asia.
This variety is VERY hardy - down to 40 below. Lavender-blue, foot long flower clusters emerge in spring and sporadically through to late summer. Quite fragrant.
Probably the hardiest wisteria around. U.S. Gardeners in far northern locations succeed with 'Blue Moon' where Chinese and Japanese wisterias have not survived cold temperatures. There are reports of success in some protected USDA Zone 3 locations, but we can't guarantee this is the norm. In Zone 4, it is a good idea to protect young plants in the winter with a good mulch and burlap-wrap around the lower trunk. Full sun for better flower production. Moist, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant when established.
Blooms 2-3 times during summer months. Cold hardy with medium green leaves and lavender-blue flowers on 10-12 in. racemes.
This new selection of a native species was found in Minnesota. The flower clusters hang down a full foot and are wonderfully fragrant, too. Best of all, Blue Moon blooms as a young plant and can repeat through summer.
Lilac-blue 8-10" fragrant racemes of flowers in spring and again in summer, needs strong support, Zones 4-9.
What more could we ask for? A super hardy Wisteria that blooms over a long period from late spring through summer with fragrant lavender blue 10-12" racemes of blossoms, and a name that sells... 'Blue Moon'. Vines are vigorous once established, and can grow to 20'.
