A find for small yard or front-o-the-border, this compact (to 2' x 2') shrub adds the wine-purple of its leaves all season to the garden palette, as well as the red of its early summer flowers; Ottawa hardiness included. S/M
Tango Weigela is a versatile shrub that can be used in a wide variety of situations and locations. Prune after flowering if needed to retain shape. Tango Weigela is prized as much for its beautiful burgundy foliage as for its trumpet shaped blooms that attract hummingbirds. Gives a stark contrast to bright green shrubs or trees.
We are always suckers for plants with gorgeous flowers and amazing leaf color in the same variety and 'Tango' Weigela fits the bill perfectly. In the spring purple-red leaves explode from tightly packed buds before producing loads of light pink trumpet shaped flowers in clusters. Over the course of the summer plants will continue to produce flowers here and there, but you can greatly increase the number of summer flowers by pruning in late spring after the first set of blooms have finished up.
Weigela look their best when they are pruned young. Weigela plants bloom mostly on old wood but will produce some flowers all year long on new wood, so mid-summer pruning will yield heavier flowering than winter pruning.

'Tango' is a naturally compact variety that produces dense growth and flowers heavily even when young. It is one of the few flowering shrubs that deer actually leave alone.
This variety has deep mauve flowers that contrast wonderfully with its deeply colored plum foliage. Compact habit on this variety ensures that with minimal care it will still look great.
