(CHINESE MAHOGANY aka CEDRELA) A rare prize, the hardiest mahogany in the world, this baby has fluorescent bright pink new leaves! Resembling sumac in leaf and form, Toona suckers to form a colony of upright stems, eventually 24’ tall and 12’ wide. The young leaves can vary from hot pink to apricot to near white and slowly age to green. The deciduous foliage turns a nice yellow in fall. Sun for best color, regular water (don’t overwater); young leaves can be cooked and eaten as a veggie.
A deciduous tree to about 30' tall by 20' wide, with attractive peeling bark, 'Flamingo' has been selected for brilliant salmon-pink spring foliage, paling to creamy-yellow then green in summer. Fragrant flowers of white are clustered in drooping panicles in midsummer followed by winged fruit. All parts of the tree are aromatic, and the flowers are attractive to insects. Minimum temperature: -20?F
Large pinnate leaves, looking like a sumac, open a blazing pink and/or raspberry. Leaves then turn yellow-green with white highlights before maturing to green. In Asia it is grown as a vegetable where new shoots and leaves are collected. Formally listed as Cedrela sinensis.
Lovely, tall, deciduous tree, native to China and much of Asia, with pinnate foliage emerging pink and aging through light yellow to bright green. Foliage is fragrant as are the lush, midsummer panicles of creamy white flowers. Peeling brown bark adds interest. Fast growing to 20+ ft in the garden, Enjoys heat, so sun to part shade with normal summer water. Frost hardy in USDA Zone 6.
Fabulous, STUNNING PINK new foliage is the highlight of this variety. In the spring when it puts on its new growth you can see the plant from clear across the garden, appearing as though covered with clouds of pink flowers. Very showy and unusual, it grows in an upright column to 30' or more.
