Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Very columnar (to 35' x only 6' wide!), this hybrid of Q. robur fastigiata and Q. bicolor is also very tolerant (of dampness, drought, and mildew) and very handsome with dark-green leaves that are silvery beneath. S/M
Chief among its merits is strong mildew resistance, in contrast to columnar English oak, which often gets terribly infested with this leaf disease. Strongly columnar in outline, it's 4-5 times taller than wide in outline, significantly more columnar than the similar selection, Regal Prince?. Grafted onto vigorous Q. bicolor liners with mycorrhizal roots, these have excellent survivability without significant transplant shock. Q. robur var. fastigiata x bicolor.
We have an ancient swamp white oak on our property that commands attention from every vantage point. It not only lures all to gather under its massive limbs when summer heat gets intense, but all marvel at its gentle but immense spirit. Alas, few people plant these grand trees anymore, primarily because space won't allow. We had to take note when 'Kindred Spirit', a hybrid columnar Oak, came along. It is a cross between Columnar English Oak and Swamp White Oak, and because of the Swamp White Oak lineage, it is a tough candidate, resistant to powdery mildew, tolerant of wet.
It is a cross between Columnar English Oak and Swamp White Oak, and because of the Swamp White Oak lineage, it is a tough candidate, resistant to powdery mildew, tolerant of wet soils as well as drought. It grows to 35' in height yet only gets 6' wide, a size that is better accomodated by today's smaller lots.
