The Bosnian pine is a delightful and distinctive conifer to 50-80' with dark-green needles in pairs which form very dense foliage on striking upright branches that are decorated with small cones of brilliant purple-blue before mellowing to brown, mature bark is a lovely shade of gray; tolerates a variety of sites, but prefers cool summer climates. S/M/GDr
The Bosnian Pine is similar in appearance and habit to our own native Bristlecone Pine, and both thrive in extreme mountainous conditions where few other tree species can survive. Both species have thick, stocky branches with dense tufts of short needles, although the two species are not very closely related genetically. Like other high elevation pines, the Bosnian Pine likes well drained soil is and extremely drought tolerant once established.
Slow growing and compact, this species will eventually reach a height of 30' with a spread of 15'. Smooth, white bark with dark green needles.
