Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Very different and very wonderful! This 12' shrub is covered with large silky haired trifoliate leaves and in mid-summer, a succession of large, bright-yellow, cone-shaped flower clusters that smell just like pineapple! The flowers are followed by 3" pea-like seed capsules which are covered in silver down. This is a truly unique beauty from the forests of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1993. S/M-D/GDr
Our sources dried up for the pineapple broom over the years. All of a sudden we remembered that our original plant was grafted on Laburnum (golden chain). Anyway, this large shrub has gray green hairy leaves and short golden chains. The flowers have a pineapple scent in late spring. Has been hardy here to -12°.
Hailing from Morocco yet happy in zone 7 (to 0?? F), this large, upright semi-evergreen shrub glistens with silken silvery leaves and is profusely adorned with large, opulent, yellow, pineapple-scented flowers in May and June. They do their best to look like pineapples, too - only much prettier! A tall shrub to 14 ft., it takes well to an occasional, even brutal downsizing from which it springs back not disheartened. Wows passersby! If it goes unnoticed you can draw conclusions, and not about the plant. Bumblebees and hummers absolutely love this flower! Minimum temperature: 0°F
The Moroccan pineapple broom is a shocker in bloom. You’ll be blown away by the fruity pineapple fragrance pouring out of the bright yellow Laburnum-like flowers. The silvery, fuzzy, evergreen foliage is very attractive as well as aromatic A large shrub or small tree, to 10-15' if allowed. Can be multi-trunked. For full sun and good drainage with water to establish. Drought tolerant thereafter. Frost hardy to USDA zone 8.
Hailing from North Africa's Atlas Mountains and sadly rare in cultivation, this RHS award winning, vigorous small tree boasts an extraordinary appearance that understates its surprising hardiness. Large, erect cone-shaped clusters with dense pineapple-scented lemon-yellow flowers festoon the velvety gray-green trifoliate leaves. Evergreen in milder climates, Pineapple Broom's upright yet relaxed looking bushy habit injects a sumptuous dose of summer cheer to a warm wall, seating area or the backside of a mixed planting. It relishes regular pruning and good drainage, endures deer, poor soil, heat and dry conditions, and thankfully will not reseed. Grows moderately to 10–20' x 8–10'. Medium Band. Blooms June–mid-August.
