Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A late-flowering form of the popular Fountain Grass, with extra long blackish-brown flower heads which create an appealing effect against the grass-green leaves. S/M
Moudry' is best known for its showy, purplish-black, bristly, bottle brush-like flower spikes that arch outward from clumps of mid green foliage in late summer. Flower spikes turn brownish as the seeds form and spikes usually persist until late fall or early winter.
Flowing with deep green, fairly wide, glossy foliage, 'Moudry' forms a burnished, tidy-looking basal mound. The showy cylindrical spikes resemble large dense foxtails, as they arise on stiff stalks just above lush deciduous leaves, which color to yellow and orange come autumn. Unparalleled among other ornamental grasses, the phenomenal fuzzy blooms impart dark purple-black shades, and make excellent cut flowers, fresh or dried. Introduced by the National Arboretum from a batch of Japanese seeds, fall blooming Black Fountain Grass is indispensable for its late season appeal in the mixed border.
Prized for its rich green foliage and large deep purple, almost black inflorescences emerging in late summer about 18" above the foliage. It forms a dense, upright mound to 2'.
