Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Tree peonies are beloved garden plants in both Western and Chinese horticultural traditions though the history of cultivation in China dates back thousands of years deeply embedding this plant in their rich traditions and cultures. Tree peonies are woody shrubs that produce large, gorgeous flowers in spring in a much wider range of colours than the herbaceous garden peonies. Paeonia 'High Noon' has fragrant, golden yellow flowers and stamens. It is sometimes listed as P. suffruticosa but is a hybrid involving P. lutea known botanically as P. x lemoinei but more commonly referred to as a lutea hybrid. It can be hardy in zone 3 with protection.
Fragrant, double yellow flowers spring, Own roots.
Awarded a Gold Medal by the American Peony Society, an award usually given to peonies of the herbaceous group. The bright yellow double petals show just a touch of rich red at the base of the stamen cluster, adding a beautiful accent. Blooms very heavily.
