Nursery contributed plant descriptions

'Yaku Jima' is a dwarf maiden grass with narrow, light green blades which turn reddish brown in fall. The compact clumps to 3-4 feet tall and wide provide a wonderful fine texture in the mid to back border. Tiny buff flowers with reddish highlights appear in tassel-like inflorescences above the foliage in late summer to fall later turning silver. Miscanthus sinensis is one of the best grasses for year-round beauty in the garden. In winter the foliage and flowers turn straw-coloured but persist until spring. Shear plants to the ground just before new growth emerges in spring. Deer resistant.
An exceptional Japanese variety, this dwarf clumper provides the lovely feathery, silver-pink , fall-into-winter flowers but in a 3' ?package?, rather than 8'!; wonderful as a fountain or bonsai companion. S/M
Resembles a dwarf 'Gracillimus' with fine foliage and coppery flowers that rise just above the leaves in early fall. Clump forming fine-textured foliage that turns reddish-brown in the fall. It turns a tawny color in winter and remains ornamental until spring.
Used as a catch-all name for any number of compact, narrow leafed plants, 'Yaku Jima' describes a a small plant that is generally less than 4 or 5' tall. Selected from the island of the same name in Japan, plants of this name carry silvery-white blossoms and have a compact, rounded habit. A good choice for small gardens.
Finely textured foliage provides the perfect backdrop for reddish-golden fall inflorescences, often rising only to the height of the foliage. The leaves turn mahogany in the fall heightening the show. And this variety grows only to 5'.
