One of Talon Buchholz selections. This is the narrowest foliaged of any Acer palmatum. Eventually a 10'-12' lacy small tree.
The fine almost thread-like leaves of this mystical maple bring to mind locks of a fairy. Delicate and airy, this slow-growing 3-8' maple is at its best in a container where it can really stand out. Soft-green foliage looks almost like mist in the summer before turning to a flame of rich crimson in the autumn. This is another fabulous introduction from Oregon plantsman Talon Buchholz. PSh-Sh/M
A unique, very slow-growing Japanese maple, this dwarf green cultivar has very narrow, string-like leaves, not much wider than leaf veins. More sturdy than its deceptively delicate look would suggest, Fairy Hair is a selection that will be less than 3 f
Another introduction from Talon Buchholz at Buchholz and Buchholz Nursery. Fairy Hair’s name describes the leaves of this cutie. A slow growing maple that is often used in bonsai. Fairy Hair starts with light green leaves in the spring turning to lush green in the summer and ending in a fall finale – scarlet red. This cultivar is slow growing to 3′ in about 10 years. Fairy Hair is not for landscape use, but is best grown in a container, unless it is grafted high on standard then it may be large enough for the garden. Once established it is hardy to -10 degrees – USDA zone 6. A collector’s must.

'Fairy Hair', introduced by Talon Buchholz in Gaston, Oregon, has such fine, thread-like leaves as to be mistaken for the hair of a fairy, should you so believe. (Fine + airy = fairy.) Orange-red spring filamentous leaves turn green in summer, then orange-red again in fall, with red petioles and red branches. This would make an excellent container plant (it's slow-growing), and an unusual bonsai candidate! It's delightful and enchanting, extremely dwarf, and rare. 2' T x 1' W in 10 years.
Rare! This one is special! Very narrow, thread-like, contorted foliage opens a subtle red. Very slow growing.
This deciduous dwarf displays fine, green foliage in summer, which transitions to a firey orange in fall. Growth Rate slow
This truly unique Japanese Maple must be seen to be appreciated. Fairy Hair, as the name implies, develops very thin, threadlike leaves that tend to be bunched together. The spring leaves are an attractive orange-red, becoming green for the summer. How appropriate this little tree would be in a fairy garden or as a small bonsai.
This is sort of a novelty plant. You have to be wearing your glasses to jus see it. and you have to be young to think that you will be able to show it off in your lifetime. But that being said. I love it.
DWARF, green. This plant grows less than 1" per year. Very fine thin segmented threadlike leaves. A well named unique maple introduced by Buchholz & Buchholz Nursery in Gaston, Oregon.
