Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Blue Bird hydrangea is the blue bird of happiness - we are working on four mountain hydrangeas to offer and this one is by far the most vigorous here in zone 8a. It's shot up and is the first one ready to write about and let fly. Besides having good vigor here in the heat, the lacecap flowers are robust, plentiful, and free-flowering for months. The sterile showy sepals do the cute flip over after they're pollinated, like Lady in Red and Cherry Explosion, and they antique red like those too. Leaves are medium green like 99% of all other serratas, but they turn red in autumn. Yes, this mountain hydrangea really does have good fall color most years. As I'm writing this I realize we don't have one in our hydrangea garden, so I'm going to wrap this up and go pull one out of inventory and plant it! Shall I pull one out for you too?

Another outstanding cultivar, the blue lacecap flowers really stand out in a wooded setting.
Continuous flowering from June to September. This Hydrangea was an R.H.S. Award of Merit winner in 1960. A vigorous plant with pale blue flowers that open in June and as Autumn approaches turn upside down showing their pink underside. The foliage turns brilliant Fall colors for your garden. You'll be thrilled with the way this plant fills the garden with color from late spring to first frost. Give this beautiful hydrangea the prime spot in your garden.
A much admired lace-cap whose pink sterile flowers surround a center of small blue fertile flowers ; provide a show from late summer into autumn; hardy ; unusually resistant to drought. SUN-PSh/Med
A Korean native with a much hardier bud than the species, so it doesn't get nipped by frost. One of the BEST HYDRANGEAS in the trade. Vigorous, drought-resistant, very free flowering. Blooms longer than most. Native to the mountains of Japan & Korea, thus adapted to colder climates. Superb copper-red Fall color. Leaves are bright green and becomes a pleasant brownish red on the tips. Delicately scented blooms. (AKA 'Aigaku')

A streamlined species, this dwarf variety has long, narrow serrated leaves. The lacecap flowers have large marginal flowers of reddish purple (light blue in acid soil) ringing the inner flower rays of deep blue and purple.
