Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The species is always wonderful with its golden yellow flowers each spring. All hamamelis listed by Gossler Farms in the Fall/Spring 2024/2025 catalog are hardy to at least -12° in their Springfield, Oregon garden, and all are grafted plants.
Witchhazel is a popular landscaping plant because of its attractive and dense foliage, multi-trunked small tree habit, and fragrant yellow flowers in the dead of winter. Gardeners are always looking for plants that start growing early in the spring or even late in the winter to get them through the slow start each year, and Chinese Witchhazel is an excellent choice. Plants form a multi-trunked tree with soft rounded leaves that turn yellow, orange, and red in the fall. This is one of the few plants that will actually flower when still partially covered in snow and looks quite attractive with its snow covered branches in full bloom.
Considered by many to be the prettiest of the Hamamelis species, the petals are long, very fragrant and have less twist than those of other species. Considered to be the most fragrant of the witch hazels. How nice to see flowers in winter on this handsome shrub to small tree ranging from 10-20'! The rounded leaves are felted beneath and turn yellow in the fall. Clusters of good, dark yellow flowers bloom on bare stems December to March.
