Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A fine male selection of this ancient tree that becomes a wonderful, wide spreading, symmetrical specimen reaching 40-50' with the gorgeous two-lobed leaves that Ginkgo's are famous for! They are also famous for their glorious golden color in autumn which lasts for several weeks before dropping (and for the beautiful yellow carpet they create when they do fall!). Male trees are generally preferred as they do not develop the unpleasant smelling fruit. S/M
Deciduous, broadly conical male form that is very symmetrical and regular in shape. Fan-shaped foliage is green throughout the season and turns a brilliant golden-yellow in the fall. Growth Rate slow to medium
Among the most popular of the fruitless male selections. Not as strongly upright as 'Fastigiata', liners require staking in the nursery. With age it attains a handsome form and consistent brilliant gold color in autumn. This clone and 'Saratoga' come from the Saratoga Horticultural Foundation.
This is a male clone so it does not bear odorous fruits. It was selected at the Saratoga Horticultural Foundation. It is vigorous, and has a wide spreading symmetrical growth habit. Faster growing than average and an excellent choice for a large shade tree. Grows to 10-12? tall in ten years. Recommended by: the United States National Arboretum.

Upright growth, fan-shaped leaves, fruitless yellow fall color, deciduous, Zones 3-9
Non-fruitbearing male clone which is supposed to have unusually fine golden yellow foliage. Hmmm. Zone 4.
An improved form of the species with a more dependable gold Fall Color. Non-fruiting male form. Gingko's only make messy fruit if they're female AND if there's a male. This male will never have fruit but would pollinate a female if you had one. Now, with that settled -- this is a fabulously gorgeous tree. Great yellow Fall color and strange but beautiful green leaves prior to that. A bit gaunt & open in youth, it shapes up on it's own with age. Do NOT prune young trees in summer. This tree is slow growing at first, eventually reaches a conical shape of about 40' x 30'. Considered one of the best larger Ginkgos for form, size, and wonderful glowing yellow fall color. If you are in doubt about which one to buy, this is the one!
