Nursery contributed plant descriptions

?A remarkably beautiful tree? (Hillier) whose purple leaves are irregularly and shallowly lobed, like an oak; slow growing. S/M
The margins undulate like the Oakleaf Beech, but are a strong purple similar to River's Copper Beech. The color, while good, will fade slightly more than River's. This is also a relatively large tree in time, although it takes quite a while to reach its mature size. Growth Rate 12" +
Fagus sylvatica ' Rohanii ' Cutleaf purple European beech is a wonderful addition for the larger urban or sprawling country landscape. The very structural smooth, gray barked trunk and stout branching is accented by the unique foliage texture and color. Deeply rippled, dark red-purple leaves that create a stained glass effect when penetrated by the glow of sunlight through the canopy. Tolerant of tough urban conditions and makes a dominant statement for any garden. Prefers full sun in well-drained soil.
Relatively tight upright form, but not as columnar as the Dawyck selections. Its incised leaves with their wavy form have given this popular selection its wide appeal.
This dusky purple foliaged cultivar shows off its unusual dusky purple leaves through early summer when they change to a deep green. It's a vigorous grower!
