Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Handsome and striking in narrow spots, this tree produces a fountain of purple leaves on weeping branches while retaining its compact upright form. S/M
Purple Fountain' is a gorgeous purple-leaved variety of the European Beech that has drooping branches and a narrow, columnar habit. It is a fantastic choice as a low-maintenance ornamental tree with great summer color and winter interest. It is also quite drought tolerant once established, needing only occasional summer irrigation. There are very few other plants that match the unique copper-purple leaves that hold their color through the whole summer and fall.

Unlike with many other plants with weeping branches, 'Purple Fountain' does not need to be pruned or staked upright as the trees develop their ideal form on their own. Each year there will be new upright growth so the tree will grow taller on its own, while most other weeping plants need to be staked upright to their desired height.

This slender, weeping beech has incredibly dark leaves and an elegant, graceful habit.
Forms a leader with pendulous branches of dark purple foliage. Our old specimen in the garden is now about 30 years old and reaches upwards to 30 feet high. With maturity a magnificent, stately tree.
Deciduous tree with a narrow, upright growth habit. Branches cascade down loosely from the central leader. Foliage is purple and may fade in the summer heat and turn bronze purple in the fall. Growth Rate medium
Differs from 'Purpurea Pendula' by being a "nursery plant" that develops a loose, upright leader instead of trying to be an ugly purple mushroom that requires constant staking. The landscape effect is charming, with pendulous branches on a loosely upright plant.
Pendulous branches drape from upright leader. Purple to purple red leaves. Drought tolerant. Zones 4-9.
A very narrow, upright purple beech with an interesting, graceful habit. The top branches remain erect, while older secondary branches become pendulous. All are coated with lustrous purple foliage in the spring. The small stature, to 12' with a 3' spread, allows those gardeners with limited space an opportunity to own a fine specimen beech.
