This dwarf beech has bright green leaves on short, shrubby branches. It has leaves similar to 'Asplenifolia' with spring leaves being very thread-like.
"Mercedes'' leaves are incised so finely that they become ferny. They turn bronze-purple in fall on this densely branched, very slow-growing shrub/tree; it will reach 4-5' by 4' in about 15 years. Be sure to put this where you can see this fine little ferny fellow. Minimum temperature: -40?F
At a growth rate of 4-inches a year, this form of European Beech is one of the slowest available. Green willow-like foliage turns bronze-purple in fall and holds until spring.
