Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Diospyros virginiana 'Meader' is an excellent self-fertile American persimmon producing delicious, sweet, deep orange fruit. The foliage turns beautiful tones of red and orange in fall. The Asian persimmons, D. kaki, are one of the most popular fruits in Asia. Its eastern US relative, D. virginiana, is lesser known but much hardier to zone 4 and produce small 1-2 inch wide, orange to reddish-purple fruit that are eaten fresh when soft like a ripe tomato or used in syrups, jellies, ice creams, and pies.
A unique, self-fertile variety. Very hardy and productive. Large, sweet, and delicious fruit is seedless when not pollinated.
