Native cousin of the hydrangea known as Wood Vamp. I fell in love with this climbing vine in Georgia when I was captivated by the fragrance of this zone 7 beauty. Although I have not seen a bloom yet, I suspect that like its cousin, it needs a few years of climbing to get the blooms started. White flowers in early summer turn to fuzzy clematis-like spent flower clusters and some colorful leaf changes to enjoy in the fall.
Mike Dirr's selection of our native wood vamp, 'Barbara Ann' was a standout from a hundred yards away due to its lustrous dark green foliage, this climbing hydrangea can grow to 40' given sufficient moisture and a rich soil. Attractive not only for the excellent foliage but also for the attractive corymbs of creamy white fragrant flowers.
WOOD VAMP - HYDRANGEA VINE - A zone 7 hardy climbing vine or rambling ground cover. Sweetly fragrant 4" domed inflorescence clusters of creamy white flowers in June and July. This plant only bears fertile flowers. Lustrous dark green oval shape shiny foliage. Native of southeast U.S.
Lustrous dark-green foliage & sweetly scented creamy-white flowers separate this 20+' native vine from others & make it a standout. Sun-PSh/Med
