It is a Viticella Hybrid that produces velvety 3 inch dark purple flowers from mid through late summer. This vine hails from France where it has been popular since the late 1800s. Looks beautiful grown through a yellow rose! Francisque Morel, France, 1885. AGM winner! Pruning: 3.
A profusion of velvety purple 3-5" blooms are borne in mid to late summer on this vigorous Clematis viticella selection. An easy and reliable perennial vine that is an excellent proven garden performer. Pruning group 3 - prune hard in early spring. Item# 9440. Clematis are often long-lived perennial vines that can live for 50 years+. These small-medium sized vines like conditions where their head is in the sun and their 'feet' are in the shade. A deep mulch, groundcover, or even a rock can provide the cool root zone that these easy perennials prefer.
