Nursery contributed plant descriptions

?The hallmark feature of this remarkable and graceful conifer is its drooping habit? (Kruckeberg)... the leader bows its head and from down-sweeping branches twigs hang pendent with flat sprays of blue-green. S-PSh/M
The Alaskan Yellow Cedar is a species with a small native range along the coast and in the Cascade Mountain range from as far south as the Oregon/California border and extending into Alaska. Alaskan Yellow Cedar produces beautiful garden specimens because of the golden tinted foliage (especially in the winter) that hangs down from stiff branches, yielding a partly weeping plant style. Trees can easily be pruned to keep a compact form and for this reason this species works well for hedging and privacy screens. The growth is just fast enough that plants will establish quickly but without producing unmanageable growth for small gardens.
This species is very cold tolerant and will grow on poor soils under hard conditions, however growth rates are much better when given better soils and regular summer irrigation.
This tree will reach 90' in the wild but only about 50' in cultivation. It shows off a glorious conical crown above pendulous branches with long, flattened sprays--you won't soon forget this one. Give plenty of moisture but not standing water.
