Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Very Rare and very delightful, this 8-12' accent tree offers pretty soft-pink spring flowers and heart-shaped leaves (yellow in fall) on graceful branches which spread horizontally before drooping at the tip. S-PSh/M PPatent10328
Lavender Twist Weeping Redbud is noted for its vibrant purple-pink blooms before the foliage comes out. This is a unique, weeping redbud that can develop a cascading canopy of heart-shaped leaves if trained while young. Fall leaf color is golden yellow. The graceful weeping habit provides an excellent winter silhouette. Lavender Twist Weeping Redbud is stunning when covered in snow.
Lavender Twist® Redbud is one of the best ornamental shrubs available because of its twisted branches, beautiful heart shaped leaves, massive number of spring flowers, and weeping fountain shape. It is quite easy to grow, tolerates dry conditions, and has few pests and diseases. Lavender Twist is also quite fast growing and is therefore easy to shape into specific forms without the process taking years as with other similar plant varieties (for example, at our nursery we have a weeping Canadian Hemlock which we have been shaping for five years now and is still only three feet tall!).

On its own, all the branches of Lavender Twist Redbud will grow straight down creating a beautiful weeping shrub. Young plants must be staked to create an upright leader (all our plants have already been staked to be upright from a young age) to the desired height. When you receive your plant, you can leave the height where it is and let it be a smaller shrub or continue staking a central leader to be taller if you desire. Some of the best plants have been staked using a ladder to ten feet, and then allowed to weep from there almost all the way to the ground. This tall form is quite worth it if you are willing to go the extra mile and stake it up as high as you can.

Because the wood is very strong, you can also make more interesting shapes using multiple leaders or long side branches and create a much larger specimen over the course of several years. But, if you are like most people and just want to plant your tree and watch it grow it will still be the focal point in your landscape in a shorter eye-level form.

A weeping tree with a twisting growth habit. The zig-zaging branches form a cascade of rich green, heart-shaped leaves. The height is dependent upon staking practices. It will bloom in the spring with a profusion of lavender-pink flowers. Fall foliage is golden yellow.
Selected by tree connoisseur Tim Brotzman. Strongly weeping tree with masses of lavender-pink, pea-shaped flowers in late spring. Dark green glossy foliage.
This weeping Redbud (which is pictured here in one of my 2 gallon smart pots in the winter) was found in western NY state. Like most weeping plants it gets only as tall as the stake you put it on, but will flare out and down from there. The flowers are a lavendar purple. Hardy to zones 5-8.
This is an exceptional selection with a weeping, twisting habit. It was found in Buffalo, New York, and is the most unusual redbud yet. It is a rapid grower but will stay quite low unless staked higher. It is very hardy. A prolific bloomer, covering itself with lavender pink flowers. Wow!
