Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This variety has larger and more double flowers than many other Sasanquas. A very profuse bloomer over a long period in fall with beautiful clear-pink blossoms that are held against the deep rich green glossy foliage. A fairly compact growing Sasanqua that is amenable to shearing and shaping. The small leaved 'Sasanaqua' Camellias make excellent landscape or container plants and are much more tolerant of sun and soil conditions than the larger flowered Japonica Camellias. These durable evergreen shrubs cover themselves in 2-3" flowers in fall and early winter and before the flowers fade the petals fall individually to form a colorful blanket beneath the dark glossy green foliage. These dwarf Camellias are amenable to pruning and shearing which should be done in spring. Sasanquas do appreciate a humus-rich soil, an organic mulch, and average moisture until well-established.
This versatile camellia will happily grow as a low hedge, an arching, 3 - 4' ground cover, or even in a hanging basket! Lightly musk-scented, the flowers are medium to large, in a soft pink, with the gold stamens fairly hidden in the peony form blooms, early to midseason.
