Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Pure white, 2" double blooms are born in fall on this durable evergreen shrub. The bright white flowers make a stark contrast against the deep dark green glossy foliage. The small leaved 'Sasanaqua' Camellias make excellent landscape or container plants and are much more tolerant of sun and soil conditions than the larger flowered Japonica Camellias. These durable evergreen shrubs cover themselves in 2-3" flowers in fall and early winter and before the flowers fade the petals fall individually to form a colorful blanket beneath the dark glossy green foliage. These dwarf Camellias are amenable to pruning and shearing which should be done in spring. Sasanquas do appreciate a humus-rich soil, an organic mulch, and average moisture until well-established.
This showy cultivar won a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Merit in 1964. The plant has a graceful weeping habit, with dark (sometimes variegated,) green foliage, that sets off the snow white, semi-double blooms. Buds are plump with pink tips. Petals are squarish, and float around the center of yellow stamens, tipped in gold.
