Camellia japonica var. quercifolia 'Pink Mermaid' is a wonderful specimen for milder gardens with large, cupped, fragrant, mid pink flowers centred with a bundle of golden stamens. The arching branches are clothed in glossy, dark-green, broadly elliptic, evergreen leaves that are narrower overall than other camellia and are splayed out at the tips with pointed lobes like a mermaid’s tail. Shrubs will grows 6-10 feet tall and 4-8 feet wide. Camellias appreciate rich, acidic, moist, well-draining soils. Use in the light shady garden as an accent or specimen plant, in containers and as cut flowers. Somewhat deer resistant.

The leaves look as though someone clipped into the tip of each leaf and fanned the individual tips; the leaves therefore look like a mermaid's fin. The fragrant, large blooms have pink petals and strong yellow stamens.
