Bronzy as they open, the narrow leaves of this 12-20' vine are soon brightly splashed with yellow ; white; 1" white, sweetly scented flowers in early summer are followed (on female plants, these are unsexed) by yellow, translucent fruit. Sun/Med
AKA. Trochostigma polygama, Actinidia volubilis A vigorous deciduous climbing vine that flowers in June. The plants are male or female and at this time, we haven't separated them into sex. There are some reports of a hermaphrodite forms, thus self fertile. This is important only IF you want to grow them for seed. They are attractive to cats and actually a sedative for felines and, as such, used in large quantity to sedate Lions, so, if you have rowdy Lions, Tigers, etc. in your neighborhood... The leaves are ovate, 6" long, often variegated w/ white or pale yellow - the primary reason for growing this plant is the foliage - the fruit is astringent and peppery. Best foliage color in full sun. Yellow fruit if both male and female are present
