Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The gently pendulous, yellow-green tipped-in-persimmon-red leaves of spring on this 8-10' rounded plant turn to crimson and red in fall. PSh/M
Yellow-green leaves emerge cupped with burgundy-orange tips. It looks as if the entire tree is unfolding soft flowers (the leaves) - others have described it as flocking birds. Tip color lasts until early summer. Summer leaves are flat and held horizontal
This grafted cultivar has new leaves that emerge yellow-green with a red border around each. During the summer the leaves change to darker greens, reds and gold. Fall colors range from gold to light red and finish with dark scarlet. Tsuma gaki is not a large growing maple. In 10 years the tree may reach 7’to 8′ tall. Some staking may be required as the weight of the leaves on new branches creates a pendulous habit and without support the maple shape will be short and wide. With support the maximum height is 10′. Tsuma gaki is a striking maple that is easy to grow and therefore, a good choice for a individual experimenting in growing JMs for the first time. Overall the size and shape make it highly desirable for a small garden or deck/patio container. Once established this cultivar is hardy to USDA zone 5. A collector’s must.

Tsuma Gaki is a really beautiful variegated Japanese Maple. In spring it has soft, yellow-green leaves tipped in crimson which fade to green over summer. Fall color is gold to orange.
New leaves yellow-green w/crimson tips fade to green. Fall colors crimson and red. Zones 5-9. Name = Red Nail.
Tsuma gaki is one of my favorites; it comes out in the spring with a yellowish green leaf rimmed with pink/purple, and it holds that color for quite a while; the leaves are sort of droopy giving the plant a soft delicate look; don't even think about planting outside in full sun, but put it in the shade and you'll be captivated.
AMOENUM, green. Closely resembles 'Tsuma beni' and is often confused as such. A most unusual slow growing, small tree with foliage that delicately droops from the leaf stem. The soft yellow-green new leaves are lightly tipped with persimmon-red. As the leaves mature the green deepens, finally turning crimson red in the fall. The tree forms a graceful small tree or small shrub, usually as wide as it is tall at maturity.

Drooping chartreuse green leaves have the most gorgeous light purple-red on the tips in spring. Always a favorite! Growth to 9 ft tall.
